ABOUT US

The Tree Trunk Sawmill & Woodshop is located in the hills and hollers of Northwest North Carolina. We settled in rural Stokes County in 2019 where we set up shop, establishing a woodshop, sawmill shed, showroom and kiln. One couldn’t pick a better location for a business such as ours.

Tree huggers, Tree lovers and Tree cutters are who we are. We reclaim trees from arborists, loggers and property owners. Such trees must be harvested due to a set of circumstances in which it is the only reasonable thing to do. They have reached a ripe age of maturity, begun to decay, have been damaged by storms or have become a threat to persons or property. Rather than these trees become waste, we salvage and mill them. Once properly dried, it has the potential to become an object that can be kept, used and enjoyed for generations. All of this is accomplished by establishing relationships with those arborists, loggers, woodworkers and homeowners of our community and beyond.

Logs are dropped off here at the mill or retrieved on-site.
Logs custom milled are processed according to the customer’s “cut list”.
Logs personally acquired by The Tree Trunk are milled to meet marketable needs; this typically consists of live-edge slabs, dimensional lumber, mantles, as well as turning blocks.

Once milled, the timber is stacked and stickered in order to air dry. When the free water has evaporated from these stacks, they are ready to be placed in our Nyle dehumidification kiln. Each package loses its cellular moisture here, until it reaches a water content level of under 10%.
We display dry slabs and lumber in our conditioned showroom where it is accessible and easily viewed.
Throughout this process, we have found ways to utilize all “waste” product. Bark-side cutoffs are sold as firewood and sawdust is sold as a compost additive.

From the forests of the Southeast come a vast variety of lumber resources. We, the Tree huggers, Tree lovers and Tree cutters would like to share with you the wonders of Mother Nature.
